Bonn-Südstadt

Bonn's Südstadt, which is located on the banks of the Rhine and has around 10,000 inhabitants, is historically very valuable. Together with Weststadt, it is the largest contiguous and well-preserved Gründerzeit district in Germany. In the beautiful residential buildings from the turn of the century you will find charming cafés and elegant restaurants with excellent cuisine. The well-known Zoological Research Museum Alexander König is located at the southern end of the district, other museums in the district near the Rhine are the Arithmeum with the mathematical exhibitions, the Egyptian Museum of the University of Bonn and the Academic Art Museum. The Südstadt is popular beyond the borders of Bonn and is known for the lush green areas of Poppelsdorfer Allee, Stadtgarten and Hofgarten. The Poppelsdorfer Allee, which was once built as a connecting road between the Electoral Palace and the Poppelsdorf Palace, is lined with beautiful Wilhelminian style houses and borders on the Kaiserplatz in the city centre. The Hofgarten, which was created in the 18th century, is part of both Bonn's south and city center and is bordered by the Electoral Palace, which houses the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms University. Due to its central location, the Hofgarten is a popular local recreation area for the people of Bonn and visitors, not only in summer. Located south of downtown Bonn, this district of Südstadt is bordered by Regina-Pacis-Weg, Poppelsdorfer Allee, Reuterstrasse, Kaiserstrasse, Weberstrasse and the Rhine.
