Bonn-Castell

The district of Bonn-Castell is located in the north of Bonn and was listed under Bonn-Nord until 2003. Around 10,500 people now live here. The name "Castell" is reminiscent of the Roman past of Bonn and the district, as are some of the street names in the district, e.g. B. the Römerstraße, the Legionsweg or the Augustusring. The Roman military camp "castra bonnensia" formed the nucleus around which the city of Bonn later developed. Some street names are still reminiscent of the Roman camp, such as "Am Römerlager" and "Augustusring" and the reconstruction of a Roman crane. When the Rhine is low, the remains of the former Roman harbor can be seen.

A good shopping infrastructure for daily needs can be found along Kölnstraße, which also forms the border to Nordstadt. In Castell there are many residential buildings, office and administration buildings, several institutes of the University of Bonn, as well as numerous federal authorities and churches worth seeing, such as the Catholic parish church of St. Joseph from 1931, a brick building in the Bauhaus style by the Cologne architects Boell and Neuhaus. In summer, the Römerbad outdoor pool, located directly on the banks of the Rhine, attracts numerous visitors. The promenade running along the Rhine with footpaths and cycle paths offers ample opportunity for strolling and doing sports. The many green areas invite you to linger and relax.

In Bonn-Castell, urban life takes place in the immediate vicinity of the Rhine, ideal for people of all ages who appreciate short distances but are not necessarily fanatics of peace and quiet. The city center can be reached in a few minutes on foot or quite comfortably by bike.
